"We'd have to find jobs for all those tax preparers."
You sure said a mouthfull there...taxation is an "industry" unto itself.

the taxes filed thread got me to thinking....what say we here in the us go to a flat tax....18% for those who make over $35,000 a year...no deductions.
hmmmmm?

Hi Yeru,
I totally agree. It seems to me that the only FAIR way to deal with taxes is a flat tax. Financial success shouldn't be penalized.

british aerial photographs during the peak of the holocaust reveal the truth of the long-time jewish claim that the allies could have bombed the railroad tracks leading to the nazi death camps and even the gas chambers themselves.
"I think it is a little late for Israelis to complain about what could have taken place during WWII."
The Israelis have gotten pretty good mileage out of the holocaust, and still do, so why would they want to give THAT up?

i live really close to one in a town that i just moved to...thought it might be interesting to go and see what kind of horseshit the local dubs are getting these days, what the general mood is, etc.
i haven't set foot inside one for almost 30 yrs.
and wonder if i would notice any changes in witlessville.. wg
Hehehe...shamus, no, I wouldn't want to go back to a hall where folks knew me...but because I've noticed a few references to a changing mood among the dubs in some recent posts, like a definite lack of zeal, etc. And these posts were made by folks who noticed this change over a relatively short time period. I haven't set foot in a KH for almost 30 yrs. Just curious whether if changes might seem more profound to me.

this is why i stopped first going out in service, and gradually stopped going to the meetings.. when i was young, my grandfather was like next thing to holy in my opinion, and really enjoyed the occasional time when my parents would send me to vist him.
but even then, it still never occured to me that the fact doctrine gets changed seriously challenges the idea of the society being god's "channel" or as being spirit "directed" or whatever they call it now.
cognitive dissonance i guess.... wg

When I was young, my grandfather was like next thing to holy in my opinion, and really enjoyed the occasional time when my parents would send me to vist him. One time I was looking through some old bound volumes and issues of really old lit that he had upstairs in a bedroom and saw to my amazement stuff like the ban on vaccinations, 1925, and other doctrine that had been since been changed. I never gave it much thought until the early 70's when one day I was thinking why are we so intent on teaching this or that doctrine to "interested" persons if it's just going to be changed someday anyway, specifically 1975, which I was starting to doubt due to remembering the time I was going through grandpa's old lit
But even then, it still never occured to me that the fact doctrine gets changed seriously challenges the idea of the Society being God's "channel" or as being Spirit "directed" or whatever they call it now. Cognitive dissonance I guess...

i have written an article on blood transfusions and the watchtower's changing standards on it.

Good stuff...
This is what happens when the leaders of a religious org places themselves as the sole interpreters of scripture.
Alternative service, vaccinations, organ transplants, three prime examples where dubs needlessly suffered great personal loss and even death due to doctrines that changed.
But the blood issue has got to remain the most glaring example of the Society totally disregarding the context in which a scripture was written in order to support a particular doctrine. And context is the prime factor we need in order for us to understand what a certain scripture means.
Here's the context...
Do not eat blood: When you kill an animal for sustainance, drain it's blood onto the ground in respect of the life that was lost to sustain your own. Blood transfusions don't involve the death of the person who donated the blood. Scripture therefore does not apply.
Abstain from blood: Folks in those days were aware no doubt of certain practices neighboring pagans engaged in regarding the the use of blood. We would view some of these rituals as most bizzare and shocking, especially ones involving human sacrifice. The listeners would have known that scripture meant to simply not engage in this kind of misuse of blood. A blood transfusion is a strictly medical proceedure that is not attached in any way to pagan blood rituals. Again, scripture does not apply.
